Campaign Story
A Journey of Resilience and Hope
My name is Monisha. I am 32 years old diagnosed with bilateral hydrosalpinx , and soon, I will experience the most significant part of my life, becoming a mother. I have worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at UCLA Health, and my practice is based on serving people. I am now promoting my dreams and trying to find the support I need to turn them into reality.
Who I Am
Being an LVN is not merely my profession; it is a calling that defines who I am. The frailty and amazing strength of the human spirit are things I see daily. I have been able to hold the hands of patients when they are at their lowest point and rejoice with families when they are at their highest. Those experiences have made me stronger and taught me profound empathy, resilience, and the power of hope. The traits I have acquired over the years of caring for others now lead me to motherhood.
I like simple things in life, reading a good book on a lazy Sunday afternoon, trying out new dishes in my kitchen , and walking around my neighborhood. As I walk along these routes, I almost always visualize myself pushing a stroller along these same routes. I am the friend who remembers birthdays, the daughter who talks to her mom every night, and someone who thinks that one kind deed can change another person’s day.
My Family Legacy
The family has always been my foundation. Growing up, I observed my mother navigate life’s challenges with grace and determination, qualities I recognize in myself today. She taught me that challenges are not roadblocks but detours that sometimes lead us to where we should be. My family background is the history of powerful women who faced problems head-on, established warm households in hard conditions, and never gave up on their visions. You should note that I was raised by a single parent, my mother, with my grandmother’s help. Together, they worked full-time at Goodwill Industries. Their resilience has instilled a heritage of resilience in my blood. My grandmother raised five children, including me and my other two siblings, and yet maintained several jobs, but always had time to braid my hair and tell me how strong our family was. Later in life, my mother continued with her education, which shows that you are never too old to follow your dreams. These remarkable women did not merely survive; they flourished, creating loving families that became havens of support and joy.
My Career
I did not conventionally come to nursing. I found my vocation when I volunteered at a local clinic during a challenging period in my life. Witnessing the compassionate care provided by nurses, including how their mere presence could bring comfort, inspired me to pursue this profession. Nursing school was challenging, particularly when I was taking a part-time job to support myself, but an undying passion to help people in significant ways pushed me along.
I have worked at UCLA Health, where I specialize in patient care, which requires medical knowledge, emotional intelligence, and cultural sensitivity. I have been exposed to various groups of people, such as older patients who have to deal with more complicated health issues and young families who have to face some medical emergencies. This experience has taught me that healing encompasses more than medical interventions; it requires understanding, patience, and authentic human connection.
My colleagues frequently refer to me as a nurse who does more than just the job, who knows that the patient’s favorite music is jazz or that he/she is concerned about their cat at home. This information is important as it helps to remember that there is a whole human being behind every medical chart, with hopes, fears, and dreams.
Why I am Good Candidate
This experience has made me understand that the ability to overcome challenges is not what defines us, but how we react to them. When I was diagnosed with a fibroid in 2022, I might have been blinded by fear and uncertainty. I did learn, however, that I sought the best medical care possible and treated my condition with the same effort and diligence that I bring to my practice of medicine. When I was informed that I would not be able to conceive naturally because of bilateral hydrosalpinx, I permitted myself to mourn this loss. At the same time, I was not allowing this loss to be the epitome of my story. I did my research, consulted many people, and made the tough choice to have an additional surgery in order to make the most of my chances of IVF. This experience increased my understanding of patients with complicated diagnoses and unclear perspectives.
I deserve this grant because I realize the real worth of what I am pursuing. My experience working in the healthcare field has revealed to me families that are separated by tragedy and have come together through happiness. I know that children aren’t simply additions to families, they represent the future, embody hope, and often become the healing that families desperately need.
The experience in my professional life has helped me to be the mother I desire. I have become more patient when dealing with disoriented elderly patients and more flexible due to the ever-evolving hospital procedures. I have learned the virtue of unconditional love when it comes to taking care of patients who were not always able to show their appreciation. I have seen how a quiet voice can calm the nerves and how a kind word can help in the most horrible times.
My Vision for Motherhood
I see myself raising a child who will know the value of serving others, embrace diversity as an asset, and see home as a place where love is. I want to extend my family tradition of strength and establish new traditions representing my life experience. During these quiet times, I envision reading bedtime stories in the same soothing tone I use with anxious patients, instructing my child in the ways of being kind through my actions, and teaching them that dreams are worth the struggle by telling them about how hard I fought to get them into this world.
This grant represents more than financial assistance, thus, it embodies hope, possibility, and the opportunity to channel all the love I have given to my patients into raising a child who will brighten the world. I am ready to take this next step in my life, building on all that I have learned as a nurse and future mother who will leave a legacy of strength, compassion, and hope. My compass will be my past experience, the roles I am willing to take in the present, and the optimism I will leave to future generations. My heart is committed to healing, nurturing, and creating a better future for everyone and just like anyone else here I want a fighting chance at bringing my little one home .Â
